Zypern ist ein Staat auf der gleichnamigen Insel im östlichen Mittelmeer. Der Staat entstand am 16. August 1960 durch Unabhängigkeit der vorherigen Kronkolonie Zypern vom Vereinigten Königreich. 1961 trat Zypern dem Commonwealth of Nations bei. Auf der Insel befinden sich weiterhin die britischen Überseegebiete Akrotiri und Dekelia.
