Zwiesel ist eine Stadt im niederbayerischen Landkreis Regen und seit 1972 ein staatlich anerkannter Luftkurort. Der Name der Stadt wurde vom bajuwarischen Wortstamm zwisl abgeleitet, der die Form einer Gabelung bezeichnet. Die Gabelung der beiden Flüsse Großer Regen und Kleiner Regen und das dazwischenliegende Land wurde Zwiesel genannt.
Die Stadt im Bayerischen Wald ist bekannt für die Glasindustrie , Kristallmanufakturen und die Glasfachschule. Zwiesel nennt sich aus diesem Grund auch „die Glasstadt“. In dem Ort befinden sich zahlreiche weitere Glasherstellungs- und Glasveredelungsbetriebe.
