Plötz liegt ca. 15 km nördlich von Halle in der Fuhne-Niederung. Die Ortschaft Plötz besteht aus den Orten Oberplötz, Unterplötz und Kösseln.
Die erste Erwähnung fand der Ort Plötz 1156, als Konrad I. dem Kloster Lauterberg 2 Hufen in Pellice überließ. Kösseln ist ebenfalls 1156 als Cozie erstmals urkundlich erwähnt.
