Meerane ist eine sächsische kreisangehörige Stadt im Nordwesten des Landkreises Zwickau. Sie ist Sitz der Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Meerane-Schönberg. In Meerane entwickelte sich im 19. Jahrhundert eine ausgeprägte Textilindustrie, die das Stadtbild nachhaltig prägte.
Meerane liegt in einem dicht besiedelten Gebiet am Nordwestrand des Erzgebirgischen Beckens an der Grenze zu Thüringen 17 km südlich von Altenburg und ca. 15 km nördlich von Zwickau zwischen der vierspurig ausgebauten B 93 und der Bundesautobahn 4.
