Küsten liegt im Wendland innerhalb der Biosphärenregion Elbtalaue-Wendland auf der Grundmoräne des Niederen Drawehn. Die Gemeinde gehört der Samtgemeinde Lüchow an, die ihren Verwaltungssitz sieben Kilometer östlich von Küsten in der Stadt Lüchow hat.
