Langendreer ist der östlichste Stadtteil von Bochum. Er wurde 1929 eingemeindet. Im Westen grenzt er vor allem an Werne sowie an Laer und Querenburg. Im Nordosten liegt der Dortmunder Stadtteil Lütgendortmund, im Osten und Süden grenzt Langendreer an Witten.
Der Name Langendreer leitet sich aus der Bezeichnung Threiri ab und wird in dieser Form erstmals um 880 im ältesten Urbar des Klosters Werden genannt. Der Name beruht auf der Siedlungsstruktur des mittelalterlichen Langendreer, in dem es drei Siedlungsschwerpunkte gab. 1436 wurde Dreer erstmals Langendreer genannt. Seit dem 9. Jahrhundert befand sich hier auch der Rittersitz Haus Langendreer.
