Der Kreis Mettmann ist ein Kreis im Westen Nordrhein-Westfalens und gehört zum Regierungsbezirk Düsseldorf. Geographisch macht der Kreis Mettmann den größten Teil des Niederbergischen Landes aus, im Südwesten grenzt er an den Rhein. Durch seine zentrale Lage zwischen den rheinischen Großstädten Düsseldorf und Köln sowie dem Ruhrgebiet und dem Bergischen Städtedreieck ist der Kreis Mettmann nicht nur ein beliebtes Naherholungsgebiet, sondern auch ein bedeutsamer Wirtschaftsstandort. Als Teil der Metropolregion Rhein-Ruhr gehört der Kreis zu einem Verdichtungsraum mit über zehn Millionen Einwohnern. Historisch und soziokulturell wird er zur Kulturregion Bergisches Land gerechnet.
