Der Bahnhof Idar-Oberstein ist der größte Bahnhof der Stadt Idar-Oberstein und liegt im Stadtzentrum. Er gehört der Preisklasse 4 an und ist der größte Bahnhof im Landkreis Birkenfeld.
Der Idar-Obersteiner Bahnhof wurde am 15. Dezember 1859 als Bahnhof Oberstein eröffnet. Damals bestand nur eine Anbindung bis zum heutigen Binger Stadtteil Bingerbrück. 1860 wurde die Verbindung Richtung Saarland hergestellt, wodurch Zugfahrten bis Neunkirchen möglich waren, wo Anschluss an die Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn bestand.
Später gab es von Idar-Oberstein auch Verbindungen zur Glantalbahn, nach Baumholder und zur heutigen Kreisstadt Birkenfeld.
