Besondere Bedeutung hat dieser letzte Güterbahnhof im Stadtgebiet der Stadt Ibbenbüren im Güterverkehr der Industrie und des Hafens Uffeln. Im Bahnhof Esch zweigt zudem die Zechenbahn des stillgelegten Bergwerk Ibbenbüren ab.
