Der Flughafen München-Riem war von 1939 bis zu seiner Schließung am 16. Mai 1992 der internationale Flughafen der bayerischen Landeshauptstadt München.
Bereits 1954 wurde erkannt, dass der nur zehn Kilometer von der Münchner Innenstadt gelegene Flughafen an seine Kapazitätsgrenzen stieß und nicht erweitert werden konnte. 1992 wurde der Flughafen Riem daher durch den damals neu gebauten Flughafen München „Franz Josef Strauß“ ersetzt. Die Bauten des ehemaligen Flughafens wurden mit Ausnahme des Towers und der denkmalgeschützten „Wappenhalle“ weitestgehend abgerissen, heute befindet sich auf dem Areal unter anderem die Messestadt Riem mit Wohn- und Geschäftskomplexen, die Neue Messe München und der Riemer Park, der aus der Bundesgartenschau 2005 hervorgegangen ist.
