Die Cebit war eine der weltweit größten Messen für Informationstechnik und fand von 1986 bis 2018 jährlich auf dem Messegelände Hannover statt. Veranstalter der Cebit war die Deutsche Messe AG.
Die Hannover-Messe, abgehalten seit 1947, beherbergte bereits seit 1950 den Bereich „Büroindustrie“, der bis 1959 in puncto Ausstellerzahl auf den dritten Platz unter allen ausstellenden Industriezweigen vorrückte.
