Die Schwarze Elster, obersorbisch Čorny Halštrow, ist ein 179 Kilometer langer, rechter Nebenfluss der Elbe in den deutschen Bundesländern Sachsen, Brandenburg und Sachsen-Anhalt.
Der ursprünglich stark mäandrierende Verlauf des im Lausitzer Bergland entspringenden und schließlich bei Elster in die Elbe mündenden Flusses wurde ab der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts durch Regulierungs- und Begradungsmaßnahmen stark verändert. Zahlreiche Seitenarme wurden abgetrennt, sodass er in der Gegenwart als einer der am meisten eingeengten Flüsse Europas gilt.
