Der Bayerische Landtag ist das Landesparlament des Freistaates Bayern und dessen höchstes Verfassungsorgan. Bis 1999 gab es als zweite Kammer den Bayerischen Senat, seither verfügt Bayern über ein Einkammersystem.
Die Bestimmungen zum Landtag sind im 2. Abschnitt der Bayerischen Verfassung geregelt. Von 1950 bis 1998 bestand der Landtag aus 204 Abgeordneten, seit 2003 werden mindestens 180 Abgeordnete gewählt. Durch Überhang- und Ausgleichsmandate kann diese Zahl steigen, so wurden bei der Wahl 2008 187 Abgeordnete gewählt, bei der Landtagswahl am 14. Oktober 2018 wurden 205 Volksvertreter gewählt.
