Als Estnischen Freiheitskrieg bezeichnet man den Kampf der Republik Estland für ihre staatliche Unabhängigkeit gegen Sowjetrussland und die unter deutschem Kommando stehende Baltische Landeswehr von 1918 bis 1920.
Seit dem Frieden von Nystad 1721 gehörten Estland und Livland zu Russland. Bis 1918 blieben die Gebiete Teil des russischen Reichs.
