Nach dem Großen Preis von Ungarn führte Jenson Button die Fahrerwertung mit 18,5 Punkten vor Mark Webber und 23 Punkten vor Sebastian Vettel an. Brawn-Mercedes führte in der Konstrukteurswertung mit 15,5 Punkten vor Red Bull-Renault und mit 74 Punkten vor Ferrari.
