Die Einwohner werden Violiens genannt.Viols-le-Fort liegt etwa 20 Kilometer nordwestlich von Montpellier. Umgeben wird Viols-le-Fort von den Nachbargemeinden Saint-Martin-de-Londres im Norden, Viols-en-Laval im Osten sowie Argelliers im Süden und Westen.
