Die französische Gemeinde Saugues befindet sich im Département Haute-Loire in der Region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Der Ort mit 1.697 Einwohnern liegt am Fernwanderweg GR 65, welcher weitgehend dem historischen Verlauf des französischen Jakobsweges Via Podiensis folgt.Saugues liegt im Zentralmassiv und ist Hauptort des gleichnamigen Kantons. Er liegt an der Grenze zwischen den Départements Lozère und Ardèche auf dem Hochplateau der Margeride. Durch das Gemeindegebiet fließt das Flüsschen Pontajou, das hier in die Seuge mündet, einen Nebenfluss des Allier. An der südlichen Gemeindegrenze verläuft der Fluss Virlange, der in die Ance mündet. Die nächsten französischen Großstädte sind Lyon im Nordosten, Toulouse im Südwesten, Bordeaux im Westen und Montpellier im Süden.
