Quimper kɛ̃pɛʁ, bretonisch Kemper, ist die Hauptstadt der historischen Landschaft Cornouaille in der Bretagne und Sitz der Präfektur des Départements Finistère im Nordwesten Frankreichs. Die Stadt hat 63.283 Einwohner , die französisch quimpérois und bretonisch kemperiz genannt werden.Ihr ursprünglicher bretonischer Name Kemper bedeutet Zusammenfluss, da sie an den Einmündungen des Jet, des Steïr und des Frout in den Fluss Odet errichtet wurde. Nach ihrem ersten Bischof, Saint Corentin, hieß die Stadt bis ins 18. Jahrhundert Quimper-Corentin . Im Zuge der Französischen Revolution vorübergehend in Montagne-sur-Odet umbenannt, heißt sie heute einfach nur Quimper.
