Diese 6,50 m hohe, quadratische Laterne im romanischen Stil besteht aus hohlen Granitsäulen mit einer Nische an der Spitze, in der eine Flamme hochgezogen wurde, die in die Ewigkeit leuchtete und den Seelen der Verstorbenen half, ihren Weg zu finden. Die meisten stammen aus dem 12. Jahrhundert und befinden sich auf Friedhöfen. Im Département Haute-Vienne gibt es sieben davon. Die in Cognac-la-Forêt befindet sich im obersten Teil des Friedhofs, wo man außergewöhnliche Grabplatten aus Limoges-Porzellan bewundern kann. Die vier Ecken der Laterne sind mit einer kleinen Säule verziert.
