Carignan ist eine Stadt mit mehr als 3000 Einwohnern, die "Yvoisiens" genannt werden (Yvois ist der gallische Name der Stadt), und liegt 20 km von Sedan (SE) entfernt. Die Stadt wird von der Chiers, einem Nebenfluss der Maas, durchflossen.Carignan lohnt einen Halt wegen:- der Stiftskirche Notre-Dame, die im Mittelalter erbaut und nach 1940 größtenteils wieder aufgebaut wurde. Im Inneren befinden sich eine Madonna mit Kind (Ende 14. Jh.) sowie die Statuen von St. Peter und St. Paul (17. Jh.) aus bemaltem Holz.- die Überreste der Kasematten und der 1681 errichteten Stadtmauer (Mauer mit 10 Bastionen und 2 Toren)- die Kapelle St. Peter (18.
