Shenley ist ein Dorf und eine Gemeinde in Hertfordshire, England, zwischen Barnet und St Albans. Das Dorf liegt 18,7 Meilen von Zentral-London entfernt.
Die Geschichte von Shenley reicht über tausend Jahre zurück - es wird im Domesday Book erwähnt. Der Name Shenley basiert auf dem angelsächsischen Scenlai, Scenlei oder Senlai, was „schöne oder helle Lichtung oder Wald“ bedeutet. Im frühen Mittelalter war der Südwesten von Hertfordshire stark bewaldet, mit isolierten Bauernhöfen oder Weiler in Lichtungen im Wald. Shenley wäre eines dieser Siedlungen gewesen.
