Chippenham ist eine Marktstadt in der englischen Grafschaft Wiltshire und liegt etwa 21 km östlich von Bath und 163 km westlich von London. Sie hat etwa 35.000 Einwohner.
Die Stadt wurde bereits in vorrömischer Zeit an einer Furt des Avon gegründet und Alfred der Große hatte während seiner Regierungszeit hier ein Jagdschloss.
Die Stadt wuchs zu ihrer jetzigen Größe im Jahre 1841 heran, als die Great Western Eisenbahngesellschaft sie an ihr Schienennetz anschloss. Der Marktort hat sich heute zu dem einer Berufspendlerstadt gewandelt.
