Der Londoner Hafen liegt entlang der Ufer der Themse zwischen London und der Nordsee. Einst war es der größte Hafen der Welt, nun ist es der zweitgrößte Hafen des Vereinigten Königreiches nach Grimsby & Immingham. Der Hafen wird von der Port of London Authority , einer öffentlichen Gesellschaft, die 1908 gegründet wurde, geleitet. Ihr Einflussgebiet erstreckt sich auf den von den Gezeiten beeinflussten Teil der Themse.
In diesem Hafen können Kreuzfahrtschiffe, RoRo-Fähren und Frachtschiffe aller Art, auch solche für Holz, Papier, Fahrzeuge, Maschinen, Rohöl, Mineralölprodukte, Flüssiggas, Kohle, Metalle, Getreide und andere Flüssig- oder Schüttgüter, anlegen. 2008 wurden über den Londoner Hafen 53 Mio. t Güter , einschließlich 2.007.000 Container und 20,5 Mio. t Mineralöl und Mineralölprodukte umgeschlagen.
