Der Irische Freistaat war von 1922 bis 1937 der Vorgänger der heutigen Republik Irland. Er umfasste 26 der 32 irischen Grafschaften, die durch den Anglo-Irischen Vertrag von 1921 vom Vereinigten Königreich Großbritannien und Irland abgespalten wurden. Der Irische Freistaat entstand im Dezember 1922 und war damit der Nachfolger zweier koexistierender Staaten: des durch die Home Rule geschaffenen Südirland, das seit Januar 1922 von einer provisorischen Regierung unter Michael Collins geführt wurde, sowie der de facto bestehenden Irischen Republik unter Arthur Griffith, die vom Dáil Éireann 1919 ausgerufen worden war.
