Der Palazzo Farnese liegt im Stadtteil Regola an der Piazza Farnese in Rom. Er ist eines der bedeutendsten Bauwerke der italienischen Renaissance und ist nach dem Adelsgeschlecht der Farnese benannt. Der erste Bauherr, Kardinal Alessandro Farnese, der spätere Papst Paul III., manifestierte seine dynastischen Machtansprüche durch einen der größten Paläste Roms. Am Entwurf und der Ausführung waren die bedeutendsten Architekten der Zeit beteiligt, wie Antonio da Sangallo der Jüngere, Michelangelo, Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola und Giacomo della Porta. Die Bauzeit erstreckte sich über ca. 75 Jahre.
