Das Freie Territorium Triest war eine konstitutionelle Republik in Süd- und Mitteleuropa am Golf von Triest, die von den Vereinigten Staaten, dem Vereinigten Königreich und Jugoslawien militärisch besetzt und verwaltet wurde und sich in zwei teilsouveräne Zonen gliederte. Der Bundesstaat wurde Anfang 1947 auf Initiative der Alliierten wegen der italienisch-slowenischen Volksgruppenkonflikte gegründet und war damals der Fläche nach der größte unter den sieben europäischen Zwergstaaten. Hauptstadt und größte Stadt war Triest.
