Cadzand (früher Cadesand) gehört zu den ältesten Siedlungen von Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Es lag auf einer Insel nahe dem Zwin und war von einem "Kade" (Deich) umgeben. Bei den Sturmfluten von 1394 und 1398 (St. Elisabethsflut) verschwanden große Teile der "Insel Cadzand" wieder ins Meer und wurden erneut eingedeicht.
Cadzand ist ein frühmittelalterliches Ringdorf, dessen Häuser sich um die frühgotische (katholische) Kirche aus dem frühen 14. Jahrhundert gruppieren. Die Kirche wurde mehrmals restauriert und ging im 17. Jahrhundert in protestantische Hände über. Es ist eine zweischiffige "Hallenkirche", in der der Übergang von der romanischen Stilrichtung zur Gotik noch sichtbar ist. Der ursprüngliche große Turm wurde 1677 abgerissen und durch einen hölzernen "Dachreiter" ersetzt. 1930 wurde der heutige schmuckvolle Turm von der Gemeinde Cadzand erbaut.
