Hurwenen ist ein Dorf, das am Südufer der Waal in der Bommelerwaard liegt, einige Kilometer östlich von Zaltbommel. Hurwenen hat 680 Einwohner. Hurwenen war von 1811 bis 1821 Teil der damaligen Gemeinde Rossum. Vom 1. Januar 1818 bis zum 1. Januar 1821 gehörte auch Heerewaarden zu dieser Gemeinde. Vom 1. Januar 1821 bis zum 1. Juli 1955 war Hurwenen eine selbständige Gemeinde. Am 1. Juli 1955 bildete Hurwenen erneut zusammen mit Rossum eine Gemeinde. Seit dem 1. Januar 1999 ist Hurwenen Teil der Gemeinde Maasdriel.
