Im Lutterzand gab es viele Sommerhäuser. Diese waren ideal geeignet, um Untergetauchte unterzubringen. Die waldreiche und abgelegene Umgebung machte es den Deutschen schwer, die Untergetauchten aufzuspüren. Neben den vielen Untergetauchten wurden auch Piloten, die ihr beschwipstes Flugzeug rechtzeitig verlassen konnten, vorübergehend in einem der Sommerhäuser untergebracht. Von hier aus wurden sie über die verschiedenen Lotsenlinien in die Freiheit geführt, um wieder am Kampf teilnehmen zu können.
