Die Geschichte von Austerlitz reicht bis 1804 zurück, als Auguste de Marmont, General von Napoleon Bonaparte, die Hälfte seiner Truppen - 18.000 Mann - hier versammeln ließ. Nachdem Napoleon am 2. Dezember 1805 die Schlacht von Austerlitz in der heutigen Tschechischen Republik gewonnen hatte, beschloss sein Bruder Louis Napoleon Bonaparte - der ein Jahr später König von Holland werden sollte -, der Siedlung den Namen Austerlitz zu geben.
