Tunceli ist die Hauptstadt der türkischen Provinz Tunceli in Ostanatolien. Die Stadt liegt etwa 580 Kilometer östlich der Landeshauptstadt Ankara. Früher stand hier das Dorf Mameki. Die alevitische, zazaische Bevölkerungsmehrheit bezeichnet ihre Stadt mit dem zazaischen Namen der Region Dersim.
Die Provinzhauptstadt liegt am Fuße eines Berges und wird auf allen Seiten von Gebirgsketten umgeben, was die Stadt viele Jahre schwer zugänglich machte.
Ungefähr acht Kilometer nordwestlich von Tunceli beginnt der Munzur-Vadisi-Nationalpark, der größte und erste Nationalpark der Türkei. Tunceli liegt an der Mündung des Pülümür Çayı in den Munzur Çayı. In der Stadt findet jeden Sommer das Munzur Kültür ve Doğa Festivali statt. Zu diesem Anlass erscheinen zahlreiche prominente Gäste, die mit musikalischen Auftritten mitwirken. Die Besucherzahl des Festivals überschreitet manchmal 60.000.
