Die Sierra Nevada ist ein Hochgebirge im Westen der Vereinigten Staaten, hauptsächlich im US-Bundesstaat Kalifornien. Der höchste Berg der Sierra Nevada, der 4421 Meter hohe Mount Whitney, ist der höchste Gipfel im kontinentalen Teil der USA ohne Alaska.
Die Sierra Nevada gehört zu den drei Gebirgszügen, die im Westen der USA von Nord nach Süd parallel zur Pazifikküste verlaufen. Der 650 km lange Gebirgszug erstreckt sich von Fredonyer Pass im Norden bis zu den Tehachapi Mountains im Süden. Das Gebirge befindet sich überwiegend auf dem Gebiet des US-Bundesstaats Kalifornien, nur ein kleiner Teil, die Carson Range östlich des Lake Tahoe, befindet sich auf dem Gebiet des Bundesstaats Nevada.
