Long Island City ist das westlichste Stadtviertel im New Yorker Stadtbezirk Queens. Es liegt am East River gegenüber von Manhattan.
Der Stadtteil ist durch sein Wachstum und seine Gentrifizierung bekannt. Mit Manhattan ist er mittels Queensboro Bridge verbunden.
Long Island City, wurde 1870 als eigenständige Stadt gegründet. Sie ging aus dem Zusammenschluss von Village, Astoria, Ravenswood, Hunters Point, Blissville, Sunnyside, Dutch Kills, Steinway, Bowery Bay und Middleton im Newtown Township hervor. Die Selbstständigkeit dauerte bis 1898.
Patrick Gleason war der letzte Bürgermeister der Stadt.
1898 wurde sie Teil von City of Greater New York.
