Downingtown ist eine Gemeinde im Chester County im US-Bundesstaat Pennsylvania mit 7.589 Einwohnern nach der Volkszählung des Jahres 2000.
Das Stadtgebiet ist seit dem frühen 18. Jahrhundert bewohnt und besitzt zahlreiche historische Gebäude. Die Stadt wurde ursprünglich Milltown genannt aufgrund seiner vielen Mühlen entlang des Brandywine Creek. Die erste dieser Mühlen wurde von Thomas Moore gegründet. Auch Frederick Bicking, ein Einwanderer aus dem deutschen Winterburg besaß Papiermühlen in diesem Gebiet. Die Familie Bicking führte hier die Papierindustrie bis ins 19. Jahrhundert fort.
