Die Schlacht auf dem Amselfeld fand am 15. Juni 1389 auf dem Amselfeld unweit Priština am Flusslauf des Lab im heutigen Kosovo statt. Das serbische Koalitionsheer unter der Führung des Fürsten Lazar Hrebeljanović sowie Vuk Brankovićs wurde durch eine Armee des mit Lazar verbündeten bosnischen Königs Tvrtko I. unter dem Woiwoden Vlatko Vuković verstärkt. Ihnen gegenüber stand das osmanische Heer unter dem Sultan Murad I. und dessen Söhnen Bayezid I. und Yakub.
Der Konflikt entstand aus dem offensiven Vorgehen der Osmanen gegen die verbliebenen unabhängigen christlichen Reiche auf der Balkanhalbinsel. Murad I. versuchte, die serbischen Fürstentümer der Oberhoheit des Osmanischen Reiches zu unterwerfen. Damit wäre das letzte Hindernis zur Übernahme des Byzantinischen Reiches mit dessen Hauptstadt Konstantinopel beseitigt gewesen.
