Risorsa: Visit Antwerpen
The name is a bit of a giveaway: this was the home of the painter Peter Paul Rubens in the sixteenth century. However, the building's history goes beyond simply being the home of a painter. It was also once a prison. The city bought the house in 1937 and turned it into a museum. In doing so, they maintained two original features of Rubens' home, the garden and the porch.
Tip from Simon: The ticket shop is accessible to wheelchair users and wheelchairs, however, with a manual wheelchair you will only be able to visit the ground fl oor of the museum. The toilets are accessible to everyone but are not always the most practical. The Rubens House garden can also be accessed, but do watch out for the cobblestones. Fortunately, if you can't manage the cobblestones, there is also a gravel path allowing you to explore the garden.
