Castle of Ardooie

Once, this classical castle, the country and summer residence of the lords of the Jonghe d'Ardoye, was located in a 3000 ha large domain. It was then inhabited by the lord of Ardooie, who referred to himself somewhat more elegantly as 'd'Ardoye'. The three ponds in the vicinity and the park are part of the large domain 't Veld. In this provincial domain, there are several beautiful avenues, a forest learning path, a pond reserve, and recreational facilities such as a children's playground, fishing ponds, and a cafeteria. The actual castle domain was purchased in 1981 by the provincial government of West Flanders, but the castle has recently become private property again (and is not accessible to the public).
