Municipality of Vresse-sur-Semois

In the early twentieth century, Vresse-sur-Semois became the painter's village, the place where all the artists from the region meet. José Chaidron, owner of the hotel 'La Glycine', founded the 'School of Vresse' around 1920, which quickly grew to become a reference in the circles of landscape painters. For more than seventy years, many temporary exhibitions have taken place here. Painters and other famous figures often come to La Glycine because of its very special atmosphere. The Belgian painter Léon Frédéric (1856-1940) from the nearby hamlet of Nafraiture painted many works featuring the surrounding forest as a subject. Today, the tourist office of the Namur Ardennes is housed in the hotel (Maison du Tourisme de L’Ardenne namuroise).
