Saint Lambertus Church

The Saint Lambertus Church is a church in Overlaar, Belgium. It has been protected as a monument since 1976.
The Saint Lambertus Church is one of the oldest churches in the country. It is a small, single-nave church with a sturdy tower and a three-sided choir with sacristies. The nave is one of the rare "in situ" preserved pre-Romanesque monuments: it largely consists of reused Roman material and quartzite in an irregular bond. It is very likely that these stones come from the Gallo-Roman villas that stood on the Goudberg near Hoegaarden in the 3rd century, just a few hundred meters from the site where the church of Overlaar was built. These villas were probably already abandoned by then, but the stones were given a new purpose.
