Nature reserve 'De Markvallei'

It has been twenty years since the vzw De Mark was established. In the late eighties, the environment was a topic that received much less attention than now. At that time, municipalities did not have an environmental officer and different types of garbage bags were still unheard of. The river Mark in Galmaarden itself was in very bad condition during that period. Six residents came together to bring about change.

Since then, the vzw, thanks to the support of many volunteers, has achieved quite a lot in the Mark Valley. 'There are now three nature reserves, totaling 75 hectares, which we have acquired together with Natuurpunt.
