The former town hall of Oedelem now houses the tourist information service and the local history group 'Bos en Beverveld' vzw. The current building is the result of renovation work in 1752 of the much older Schepenhuis of the Lords of Praet. It features a beautiful council chamber with a monumental fireplace. The entrance door of the council chamber was made by Pieter Coppée (1762). The building also still contains the former lottery drum that was last used in 1909. At that time, Oedelem was the main place of a militia canton. Conscripts from Beernem, Oedelem, St-Joris, Sijsele, St-Kruis, and Assebroek had to come here to 'draw lots'.
In front of the town hall is the market square, where a significant butter market took place weekly until the 1950s. In the market stands the kiosk that camouflages a bunker from World War I.
