Bonlez is a village in the municipality of Chaumont-Gistoux in the province of Walloon Brabant and was an independent municipality until 1 January 1977. The territory of Bonlez was more than 97% "of landscape value" according to the regional plan, which is explained by the fact that this is where the transition takes place from the flat Hesbaye to the relief-rich Dyle valley. There are many small rivers that have created a network of valleys. Those steep slopes were unsuitable for agriculture, so a lot of forest and nature was preserved. Due to the numerous springs, the water quality is of such a high level that trout can be farmed locally. There are several underground water catchments that supply both Brussels and Flanders.
