Originally, the Epernay square was designed as a tennis court, but this design was never realized. In 1891, the first wooden casino was built here. It stood for only 5 years before it was already burned down. The casino was rebuilt, but soon it became apparent that it was too small to accommodate the flow of interested visitors. Therefore, just before World War I, a new casino was built according to the design of the famous Brussels architect Hobé. Unfortunately, this building did not survive either of the world wars. In the 1950s, the current building was constructed, based on Hobé's design and developed by architect Vereecke. The casino is designed in a cottage style, built from large similicrete blocks on a base of natural stone. The large, high roofs are covered with tiles and feature many dormer windows. The hall is illuminated from above by sunlight that can enter through the colored stained glass. Besides its function as a gaming hall, the casino is also known for the many performances that take place in the so-called Baccarat hall.
