Great Bamberg

Bamburgstraat nr. 130. Also known as "GROTE BAMBURG". Farm, rebuilt shortly after World War I on the site of a pre-war manor. This last was first mentioned as the outfarm of the Saint Peter's Abbey of Oudenburg in a document from Pope Innocent III from 1208 and consisted in 1914 of a moated residential island including an entrance gate, residential house, stables, barn, and brewery. Reconstruction architecture, connecting with traditional, regional farm construction cf., layout: loose, low components around a gravelled courtyard with a dog house and water well; farmhouse to the east; stable and barn with cart shed to the north; plantings: surrounding meadow with poplars and willows to the south and west; remnants of a moat all around; materials: anchored yellow brick on cemented base; tiles (mechanical) gable roofs; regional construction elements: buttresses at angles, against the residential house and barn; side gable walls with gable ends and wall decorations; roof windows in gable walls of the residential house; rectangular and barred window openings under wooden lintel, recessed in basket-arched framing on brick sills.
