Steam train Maldegem-Eeklo

In meetjesland, enthusiastic volunteers have been maintaining a tourist steam train service between Eeklo and Maldegem since 1990. They had outgrown the model building phase in the mid-80s and wanted to try their hobby on a full scale.

After first gaining knowledge on 60 cm track for a few years, the association started operating on standard gauge. Later, all the buildings of the station site abandoned by the SNCB were bought in Maldegem, so that the past can now be evoked in all its facets. The Stoomcentrum Maldegem houses the largest collection of steam locomotives in Flanders.

In the steam depot you will get acquainted with all facets of the steam era (steam locomotives, a factory machine, a fire brigade sprayer, a locomotive...). Relive the journeys of the past in third-class coaches with wooden benches pulled by real steam locomotives, or on board an antique diesel engine car. We also offer you a ride on the narrow-gauge railway towards Donk as well as a film screening in our renovated cinema car.
