Saint-Fiacre Church

You are in front of the Church of Saint-Fiacre.
Dison enjoyed the same prosperity as Verviers thanks to the wool industry, and many factories are present in the area. This growth contributed, among other things, to a considerable increase in the population.
The chapel built in 1737, which was first enlarged, quickly proved too small to meet the needs of the parishioners of Dison. The Municipal Council and the Church Fabric Council decided to build a new church. In 1853, the first stone was laid; the construction was completed five years later. It was consecrated on June 29, 1858. This building is the work of the Liège architect Jean-Charles Delsaux.
The church is dedicated to Saint-Fiacre, the patron saint of healers. It follows a basilica plan, meaning it develops in length. It is made of bricks, stones, tuffeaux, and slates. You will notice that it is in a neo-Roman style. The construction is dominated by an octagonal tower 47 meters high, to which four turrets are added.
The interior of the church is particularly graceful; this impression is enhanced by the presence of tall pillars and high windows. You can observe that the entirety of the furniture has been carved from oak, such as the altar, confessionals, Stations of the Cross, the pulpit of truth, also in a neo-Roman style. Other elements deserve your attention for a moment, such as the magnificent colored stained glass windows, the murals, and the large crucifix of Christ suspended.
