Caermersklooster

The Monastery and church of the shoed Carmelites is a former monastery of the shoed Carmelites in the Belgian city of Ghent. It is located in the Patershol neighborhood. Between 1977 and 2018, the building was owned by the Province of East Flanders, which opened the hall church to the public in 1998 as the exhibition space Provincial Culture Center Caermersklooster. In 2018, the City of Ghent became the owner of part of the building; since 2019, the monastery has housed the contemporary art institution Kunsthal Gent. A large part of the complex is still owned by the Province of East Flanders, which intends to sell its properties.
