Boulevard Léopold II

The Léopold II Boulevard is a thoroughfare in Brussels that leads from the canal towards a majestic view of the Koekelberg Basilica. Its name pays tribute to King Léopold II. This boulevard, capped for thirty years by a viaduct passing at the height of the first floor of the mansions, has seen a new flourishing since 1986 thanks to the burying of traffic in Belgium's largest tunnel. The surface, redeveloped in 1990-1991, marked the beginning of an era of renovation for Brussels by the regional authorities. The boulevard is located near Tour and Taxis. Some suggest that this boulevard is a Brussels replica of the Champs-Élysées in Paris, in the sense—purely symbolic—that it is also oriented towards the west, the abode of the dead. There is a road in Koekelberg named avenue du Panthéon. Additionally, an avenue Léopold-II was opened in the 16th arrondissement of Paris on August 13, 1928.
