Free Secondary School Roeselare

No. 40 / Blekerijstraat. “Free Secondary School”. L-shaped building complex from 1935 by A. Van Coillie (Roeselare). Yellow brick construction of two stories under a tiled gable roof on an L-shaped floor plan. The tower-like volume under a tent roof, finished with T-shaped glass sections, connects the wing (parallel to the street) of the Arme Klarenstraat with that (ridge perpendicular to the street) of the Blekerijstraat. Rectangular windows under lintels of imitation stone; facade on the Blekerijstraat has a strongly horizontalizing effect due to the continuous lintels. Extension from 1939 by A. Van Coillie with three bays. Extension with red brick construction of another three bays in the Arme Klarenstraat from 1964 (455). SAR 301/1935, 172/1939, 272/1964.
