Castle Van den Hove

Castle Van den Hove. Located in a garden on the east side of Meersemdries on a part of the former estate Claeys Adrianus (see Meersemdries number 3). According to cadastral data, the original castle from 1881 had a square floor plan with an extension at the south-west corner and the south-east corner. Significantly enlarged in 1896 on the eastern and western sides while the extension at the south-west corner was expanded to the current protruding square water tower at the right corner of the façade. The front façade side (west) was also provided with a brick terrace with iron railing and an open wooden gallery the width of the tower. The last modifications date back to 1921: the terrace on the left extended to cover the entire width of the side façade with the addition of a brick gallery; the wooden gallery of the façade replaced by a similar brick one; at the same time, an extension of a five-sided bay window was added against the rear façade.
